Whitaker

The Whitaker Estate set on the island of Mozia, in the Marsala lagoon, holds a set of vineyards in which history meets modernity, and nature meets civility. Once a Phoenician colony, it is a place where the marine ecosystem and the vine – arriving nearly to the water’s break – live in total harmony. This rich and saline terroir holds the story of a wine produced in the beginning of the 19^th century, in the golden days of Marsala. The Whitaker Foundation, guardians of the island, chose Tasca d’Almerita to forge a plan of valorization and recovery of the historic Grillo varietal. Thus was born the project “Grillo Mozia”, 11 hectares cultivated in the albarello style lying low to the ground in resistance of the salt-swept wind that seeps from the seas.
